As any one taken there ML off road? I only purchased mine last week and have an overwhelming urge to have a go as the only off roading it will normally see and the reason that I purchased mine was when I go shooting and need to get across wet fields and dirt tracks. There is an interesting off road centre for "gentle" off roading or you can get as extreme as you dare, some good pictures of a Porsche Cayenne after a little mishap.

What do you think, is the ML up to it?

I think you will be fine off road, even on the not so gentle bits, but more extreme stuff brings the risk of damage, no matter how good the car and driver.
I have read that they are very capable off road especially with the 19" wheels. Enjoy :-D

The bottom line with 4x4's is the tyres they are shod with,I have taken 2 wheel drive vehicals off- road with off -road tyres where you could not get a 4x4 with road tyres, lets face it most 4x4s in the UK never go off- road so are shod with road tyres, true off road tyres are not suitable for high speed on road driving ,
So at the end of the day off- road performance is only as good as your tyres
