Fitting a towbar next week on my ML,where can I find info on bumper removal ?
Dont want to miss all the mounting bolts etc.
Seen the ones behind the little flaps but not sure how the sides are held on.

I read your previous post about bumper centre section removal.
You can remove the centre section cover to expose the factory (detachable) towbar fitting.
If you are considering fitting a complete new towbar, then you must remove much more than that to enable you to bolt the new structure to the chassis.

Just bought a towbar and will fit it next week, the centre section will also need to be cut to allow the bar to come through. ( fixed one )
It bolts behind this section and corner strengtheners are fitted at each corner of the rear chassis.
Hence bumper needs to come off

Good for you.
An enthusiastic approach and mild understanding of how the electrics work will see you through. Once you get the towbar, you will see exactly where it has to be bolted. You will have to remove the bumper reinforcing steel first to make way for the new structure, and this will involve removing the whole bumper (a socket set is about all you will need).
I chickened out on my previous car, mainly because of the electrics, and after consideration, a little over £100 for the labour didn't seem too bad.
Please let us know how you get on.

Are mercedes not pre wired for towbar electrics? I would of thought that there would of been multi sockets ready and waiting, cutting and splicing wires seems old fashioned in this day and age.

Working are cars is no problem,
I built my Tiger kit car in 2000 in 6 months and now 3/4 way through my second.
I need the towbar to tow my sons trackday car and intend to also do same with my second build.
Always fitted my own bars on other cars over the years and from experiance there is always an obsure hidden bolt that gets missed.
