I have a ML270 2002, a while ago, another car hit into the passenger mirror and after that everytime the mirror folded in, it would make a clicking sound. I replaced the mirror with another one and it worked fine. After about 2 weeks of fitting it, it started to make the same clicking sound. I also noticed that the passenger one opens a fraction later then the drivers side one.
I have tried resetting it by holding the open button for three seconds and the closing button. One thing I have noticed is the passenger mirror closes in more (I guess that why is is making the clicking sound).
