ML main beam comes on intermittently

I have a 2002 ML 270 with xenon headlamps I first notice the green lights on indicator was not coming on in the dash and I now have the full beam coming on intermittently when the lights are on.

I have read a couple of threads that possibly points towards either the indicator stalk or more worryingly the (AAM) all activity module ?

is there anything I can check to narrow it down a bit ?

Only way is using a star machine using actual values..........

Can you remove the AAM and check the contacts without any problem, or do the various systems need reporgrammed once the module has been removed ?

The car is booked in for a diagnostic later this week, priced up a module out of interest and inchcape are quoting £260.
