Hi -

I'm about to change the disc pads on my ML270 (front and rear, W reg).

Although I've changed the pads on quite a few vehicles previously, I just can't see how the ML's old pads can be released from the callipers... Short of any obvious route I'd rather ask than 'try' a few possibilities.

What am I missing? Please can someone who has done this previously provide a brief description?

Many thanks,

Paul G

Your calipers have to be removed by taking out the 2 rubber bungs on the rear. they are in stand off pillars 2, the undo the screw using a 7 mm allen key
the screws and bungs are item 170 in the link.

You do need something 0f the correct height to put the caliper on, as it must not hang by the hose.

To get the pistons back clamp the hose and undo the nipple

Hope this helps

I changed all 4 corners of mine a few weeks ago, look at the caliper and you will see that the pads are held in place with a stainless steel flat spring plate, this in turn is held in place with 2 pins, from the wheel side as you look at the caliper you will see two pin holes, knock a drift or modifed screwdriver through the hole and the pin will push straight out, take both pins out, the stainless steel flat spring and with a bit of a woggle or use the old pads to push the caliper pistons back in their housings prior to removing the pads, dont forget to check and if neccessary remove some fluid from the reservoir.

A better description is here http://www.petefagerlin.com/ML/brakes.htm

Mine is a 2002 model by the way.

Just lever that clip off and undo the bolts that hold the caliper on. Be careful as they are torx bolts with no dust caps so they get full of crap; so that makes them easy to shear.
