Hello everone! I've been seriously considering buying(importing from Germany) a ML250 2012 with around 150k KMs on it, I just have a couple of questions. As it's a diesel and I'll be driving mostly in the city (with a weekly visit 50kms away), should i reconsider? I'm hestitant as I don't want to wreck the engine with short trips. This would be my first diesel car and I'm not sure what to expect. Also, are there any pitfalls I should be on the lookout for when testing an ML250?

Either way, thanks so much for helping - and what a wonderful this seems to be.

Have a great weekend.

Welcome Phasio. Diesel cars and cities don't go together well at all. London for example is busy banning diesels. Bristol looks likely to do the same. Very popular just a few years ago, they're becoming pariahs because of their emissions. They actually work very well. London taxis were all diesels but not anymore.

Ml250 has om651 engine claimed by some as not their best effort. And at those miles it could be grand as well used. There are timing chain, inlet manifolds and DPF issues, I have been in contact with a mover in the states with 300k miles and still going strong, others having issues as listed

Welcome diesels are not great in cities they don't like short journeys, you will end up with DPF problems.
Secondly you will get stung for the congestion & emission charges.
Ideally you want a hybrid for city driving.
