ML270 CDI fuel consumption

Evening all. I've just join the forum and wonder if I can put a question to all you ML 270 diesel drivers. I've just been on a long journey in the ML and was a good boy and sat at 75 with the cruise control on for a full tank. I had a full tank when I left the house and I had to tank up after 420 miles (74 litres). What is everyone else getting? Is this bad? I thought they were meant to get baout 30mpg average and on a long journey I thought I would have got about 500 miles out of the tank.

Should I be taking the ML in before the warranty runs out? Anyone got any thoughts as to if this is average or below par?

25.8mpg is not as good as i thought it should do, we went on hols with another family in an M270cdi and did 2400 miles our 210 estate 300TD with roof box an 6 on board did just over 30 cruising at 80mph and the M class fills were very very slightly bigger than ours i reckoned she was doing 28-29.
Check your tyre pressures and keep them at the high end of the scale to see if consumption improves.

My ML270 (auto) varies between 27..29 mpg although last year, on a trip through Spain i averaged 33mpg at cruising speeds of 80mph.

I think that cold weather increases fuel consumtion.

As mentioned previously, check tyre pressures (29psi all round) and also check the condition of the air filter.

So how many miles to a tank does that mean you get? I get the warning light up at about 390 miles from a full tank.

Cant really say how many miles to a tank as i fuel up randomly from various levels (reseting the odometer trip)...i then divide the miles travelled into the gallons used since my last refuel to ascertain my mpg figure.
