ML270 CDI - Grinding Noise when turning/braking

Hi All

Ive just bought a 2001 ML270 CDI and overall Im quite pleased with it.
There is one issue which Im unsure about though -

When either braking, or turning to the right (putting weight towards the front/left of the car) - the front nearside wheel seems to make a 'grinding' noise. Its not a loud noise (can only be heard when the radio is off and there are no kids in the car!) but it is definitley there.

I've had a mechanic friend take a quick look who was unable to see anything obvious wrong but as its used for the school runs Im keen to solve it incase it is unsafe.

Any suggestions most welcome.

sounds like the brake pads are worn best way to check is to remove the pads

It sounds like brake pads or a wheel bearing. I would jack it up and see if there is anything obvious.

I think your mechanic friend would have checked this though.

CVs? Wouldn't be obvious from a visual inspection.
