ML270 fuel

Just a quick thought but in view of the rising diesel prices and currntly 25 mpg on my ML270 are there any alternatives out there like refined chip fat ?

Yes quite a bit of stuff on the net about bio fuels . cooking oil etc, and some of the guys on here have been using it, I think there is still an impression that you need an old volvo estate, leather patches on a well worn tweed jacket, and be a direct descendant of Heath Robinson to be bothered with such stuff.. but drastic times calls for drastic solutions...

Can you LPG a diesel??


I don't do the miles to worry hence went for a ML350 but LPG would be my route if I wanted cheap fuel..

So many big engined cas now having kits kitted they are a whole lot more advanced than they use to be also.

25 mpg is that avearge? sounds low?

No cant run a diesel on gas..but the first ones ran on coal dust...

25mpg is (Ithought) quite reasonable for a 2ton automatic, even less when towing a caravan!
Just wondered if anyone knew any of the teccie stuff about refining chip fat

We had a number of heavy goods vehicles that ran on LPG with diesel engines, so it is possible. This link however, http://www.go-lpg.co.uk/diesel.html has shown it may not be the best way to go.

On a run mine gets 25-28 mpg ( a 3.7 V6 Auto) so would think a ML270 would be closer to 30mpg?

Towing our van it does around 18mpg but reckon if I was steady ease it to 20mpg

An ML on a long run may well pull 30mpg but overall 25 is a fairly decent figure I would say for a 4 wheel drive...
