ML270 Gearbox oil changes

Can some one advise me as to what oil goes in the gearbox and where to get a dipstick, this is the fist car/4x4 i have had without a dipstick!! what happen's if you get an oil leak from the gearbox (i have!!) you cant check it and there's no reference to what oil to use.

Your local Mercedes dealer has everything you need. I visited mine yesterday and bought 4 litres of transmission fluid, plastic 'dipstic' seal, filter and rubber sump gasket for £56. If you want the dipstick too, it will cost you another £30, and if you want them to sort it all out for you, then have a big wad ready.

I found a local independant who has the dipstick already. He has offered to drain the fluid, remove and clean the sump, fit new filter and refill for £45 labour.

Someone else on here had a gearbox leak. IIRC it was the sensor plug (or something like that). The parts cost next to nothing, and the fix was simple.

Oh, forgot to mention that Television has posted a sticky listing the fluid capacities and specs (your gearbox is the 722.6), and the Parrot of doom sticky gives you the dipstick details if you want to make one.

You mention that television has a posting how do i find it as i'm new to this site my ML is the 2002 facelift model, does any one know of a good independent merc specalist in swansea south wales?
