Hi Chaps,
Been lurking for a while here (with nowt much to add) but now I have an issue and would appreciate a couple of pointers if possible.

The top lobe of my high pressure pump has begun leaking from under the small top cover/head component.

Are there any repair possibilities (if so whom, or what components are available), or ultimately how much is another??

Cheers
BHM

Get a second hand pump. That is probably the cheapest option. Euro car parts do them also.

Before you do that make sure it's that thats leaking, as the feed pipe fits into here also, the two clear plastic pipes and they are prone to leak from the seal. I'm sure Black C55 knows his onions, but it's the same one thats fitted to the Sprinter and thats a common fault on these. Buy the way MB HP pump is £400+. Ouch!

What is the job of the HP pump apart from the obvious? What is it creating high pressure for?

It's a CDI, so it has a common rail running at extreme pressure. Old injections systems, pre 2000, used to use an inline injection pump or a roatary one. These were timed to the engine and as they turned onto the cam of the injection pump it pushed fuel down the injector pipe untill it reached the set pressure, also very high, and the injector raised of it's seat and sprayed fuel into the combustion chamber. Modern CDI or HP engines, the injector rail is full of high pressure fuel all the time and injectors are opened, at the desired time, ie, TDC, electronically and injected into the combustion chamber.
Hope this makes sense.

If you look at this thread it shows how to do it and the last pick shows the HP pump. If you are ordering new seals, they'll probably sell you new pipes, order the clips that hold the pipe in under the HP pump, two of them, .60p each as you'll break them getting them off and you need them off to get the pipes out.
