Help!. My 2002 ML270 continues pulling strongly to the left, even on flat roads and motorways. It's been back to the garage several times, they can't find much wrong, re-do the alignment and give it back.

ML pulling to left

Hello
Sorry to hear about the problem. I assume the tyres are in good order and at the correct pressures. Do not trust guages at filling stations. Have you had them checked? You say the alignment was checked. Was this an alignment of the 4 wheels as this is essential. Have suspension components all been checked? There really should not be any mystery as why it is pulling to one side.

There have been numerous posts on this subject which you can find by searching the forum. Many are in relation to the C-Class, but are probably relevant to the ML.

Basically, if you find it drifting to the left on a left camber, and to the right if driving on the other side of the road (when clear and emptyof traffic), there's nothing wrong. On a flat surface, such as an empty carpark, it should go straight.

It's just the way the steering geometry is designed. It's just one of those Mercedes unexplainables, where other manufacturers can get it right.

pulling left - fixed

I had the same problem on a 2001 C240

I argued with Mercedes for 2 years. Had it looked at by 4 Mercedes dealers and also paid for an RAC inspection. Mercedes gave me all the normal rubbish about camber, tyres etc nut RAC reported it was a problem. Mercedes HQ told me to bugger off and my supplying dealer got closed down so I had nobody to fight.

Anyway, to cut a very long story short, I found another chap with the same problem and he put me in touch with a bloke at Mercedes HQ (in service) that knew how to fix the fault.

I gave his name to my local dealer and it GOT FIXED.

I will try to find the name of the contact and dig out the invoice for the parts. There were some "replacement bolts"

As a result I feel that Mercedes service stinks and I will never buy another one. I have purchased 2 brand new cars from them and will never do it again. I have also inforced a policy in my company and taken Mercedes off of the company car list.

Please visit http://www.rantz.co.uk and post your comments about this issue.

Thanks

I find that mine pulls to the left only when I'm in a red light area. I also find that I can't get above 5 mph.
