(ML270 - W163) Loose hose at back of engine seems to be more than a bleed/breather hose

I was looking at a leak in my gearbox lubricant/oil pipe (another post) and I saw a hose that seemed homeless. It looks more that just a breather hose and Ifollowed it round to the back of the engine. Any idea if it plugs into something or if indeed it's a breather hose.

The hose is front offside.

The engine is in the process of being cleaned. The wetness on the engine block is coming from a fuel leak from the injectors which I have just received the parts for, and the grease on the hose/pipe has come from a broken air-intake manifold which covered the engine in black gunk. I have painstakingly refurbished the air-intake manifold. Once the fuel leak is fixed, a big clean up operation will take place on that side of the engine.

I'll get my mechanic to look at the loose hose/pipe it when I take her in for an MOT.

I think that hose is supposed to go into the back of the injector well at the very back of the engine rocker cover. Its to drain any fuel that leaks from the injectors/fittings on top of the engine.
