MY 320 failed on many things this year, fixed them all myself except for headlight aim and Foot/Parking Brake efficiency.

Can anyone tell me if the brake is easy to adjust on my own, and if possible how do I set about doing it?

I need to know before Thursday, as it is due for the re-test on Friday.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Television, are the shoes easy to replace, is there an online Haynes typemanual that I could consult?

As for the headlights, it is a 1998 model, I dont know how far out the light is, maybe I could drive it to a dark place & judge it for myself?

Cheers Malcolm, I will have a look at the rear in the morning, see how easy the disc is to remove! Thanks.

Excellent! So far this forum has helped me sort out my ESP/BAS lights, identify a pulley problem and fit an anti-roll bar link, saving me a few hundred pounds no doubt! Brake shoes here I come!!!!!

Wifes w203 handbrake just adjusted through the drum good as gold.

What was wrong with the headlamp aim to high/low? if just one lamp out park 20feet from garage door as you said and adjust them any closer and its very difficlut to see the effects of any adjustment, can still be manually adjusted even if xenons, well i did on wifes car.

Well I bought new shoes, took everything off, there wasnt much difference in the wear of the old shoes compared with the new set, so I adjusted the cogwheel. But when I did the other side, I was just putting the disc back on after a final adjustment, when one of the shoes braking surfaces fell apart!

I ended up doing the whole job again, but this time replacing all the shoes, which ended up being quite fiddly. But now its done, and it passed.

However, I was wondering if there is any adjustment required on the footbrake pedal, as it is nearly touching the floor!

As for the lights aim, this was a simple adjustment from inside the engine bay.

Many thanks to my MBC advisors!

The main thing when fitting new shoes is to keep them central. With the adjuster in the hub I do them up so that the hub locks, then operate the parking brake a few times, then just back of the adjusters so that there is a tiny bit of rubbing, as they soon wear down, if this does not work for you then the cable must be adjusted through the access hole under the rear seat on most cars

OK what was happening is that the cables was too tight and the shoes were rubbing, once you went for a drive the partially on parking shoes got hot and expanded cause the 1 click only.

I can send you the paper on adjusting the rear shoes

It is the cables 65 that should be backed off

Malcolm, thank you again for helping me! Does cable 65 get adjusted under the rear seat or is it near the pedal I need to do the adjustment?

Hi Malcolm, how are you? Just wondering if you had any luck locating the adjustment for the cable? Passed its MOT anyway so not too urgent anymore :)
Thanks again for all your help!
