We have an odd problem with the towing electrics on our 2006 ML500 - when rhe Trailer is plugged in the right hand indicator is permanently lit. When the car is indicating right it reports a fault with the trailer lamp. All other functions work perfectly. Note that I have the same behaviour with 3 different trailers, so assume it’s the car... there are no LEDs involved.
I have checked the socket itself, and it is very clean, with no sign of corrosion internally.
i have also checked the rear SAM, and again it seems good - I took the module out and cleaned the PCB and there is no damage (luckily!)
what I can’t find is the relays which trigger the lights. On the pre-facelift W164 the relays for the tow bar are not in the rear fusebox... but I can’t find where they are! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
