Hi,

I have just purchased a Parrot CK3000 Hands Free Kit, which works on blue tooth to connect to my phone for my Mercedes SL ( 2000 ? R129).

All the connections are standard ISO and simply plug into the back of the radio and uses the cars speakers. I need to mount the microphone near the rear view mirror, and when looking for a suitable location noticed that there appears to be a small speaker/microphone (I think) behind the grill area of the interior light/rear view mirror plastic housing as illustrated below?

Is this where Mercedes dealers mount their microphones? Or is it a sensor for the climate control?

Any advice about mounting the microphone greatly appreciated, as I prefer a stealth installation where the microphone is hidden from view.

I prefer to have any additions to my SL to look as if they were a factory fit and that?s the reason why I purchased the Parrot kit as a lot of it is plug and play and hidden from view.

Thanks in advance for all your advice

James

I think you'll find that vent of for the interior air temp sensor for the heater (ambient tempeerature fan). So, don't block it and there's no room in the housing for the mic. (plus as I believe there is a small fan in there, the mic will hear it). They don't actually build in a location for the mics. I recently had a new W211 with a Merc fitted nokia kit. The only reason I knew it was there was the nokia mic stuck to the roof console. took me 10 mins to find the cradle hidden in the centre console lid.

The mic should be attached (stuck) to the outside of the housing ideally on the driver's side.
I think in the case of your's I would run the cable through the vents and stick the mic on the centre of the console, between the two map lights, or run from the windcreen side (probably neater) and mount it on the RHS of the mirror base in front of light. Another option would be on the driver's windscreen pillar. Unfortunatley if the mic is hidden, it will impair the sound quality and you need to consider shielding from wind noise when the roof is down.
