Question: Do you have a mobile tool box that you either keep in your car/van or one that you can grab and go if you need to fix something/help somebody while out and about? What do you keep in it?

I quite like the look of this. I would have room for some sockets / spanners and a breaker bar would fit in the bottom drawer along with a few bigger items such as impact etc..

Something like this could sit in the workshop, on the matching trolley unit. Then, if I need to go somewhere to help somebody or a track day I can just stock it up with what I think I need... having most of the common stuff live there anyway.

P.S. I know that no matter what I put in it and what I select when going out, there will be something in the workshop that I need! That's murphys law.

I have a small case I keep in the car. Nothing much.
Just screwdrivers, sockets (1/2 and 1/4), ratchets, a few common spanner sizes, adjustable spanner, pliers, side cutters, insulation tape and zip ties.

All fits in a briefcase sized case.

Additionally I keep an Autel AP200 (R class), MB-II (r230), Carsoft 7.4 (r129) in the car for diags.
Star/Xentry sits in the house for whenever I need to go deeper....

Just to add - as @00slk knows... If it can't be fixed with a bit of number 8 it's not worth fixing!

*number 8 is the standard NZ farmers fencing wire.

Very easy to steal... :(
Make sure it's well secured down because it's a missile if you're in an accident...

I've a Draper expert on a Facom roller cab - it lives in my garage and I take one of the briefcase tool boxes for trips etc

A chap came to fix some leaking pipe work earlier this year and he had all his tools in a really smart rucksack. Lucky his was company issue because it was an eye watering amount for the rucksack alone... I need to dig out the details of his exact one but here is a link to something similar but not as sleek and although not cheap... a little cheaper than his...

You get all sorts that might accommodate what you are thinking of, including sleek designs with wheels!

Smart + others :)
As above, this is my mobile tool box, if you can’t limp it home, I doubt your going to fix it roadside.

Agreed. Now that i've been thinking about the notion of having a toolbox in car. A bunch of tools ain't gonna fix much without the parts. eh!?

Useful for reducing trim, possibly bridging a leaky hose, fine tuning headlight alignment, changing a bulb and tightening a nut/bolt/screw that may have come loose. That's about it.

I carry a box with enough tools to do a cylinder head gasket at the side of the road. Years living with a Lotus :)

However, as I get older I find my most useful tool is a "magnet on a stick". Means I don't have to bend down to pick things up when gravity does it's thing.

I drove 2000 miles in an event recently around Britain with a screw driver, 6" shifter spanner,= and a pair of pliers in my 49 year old car..................Luckily there were others around with a hammer :D

you'd need tools of some kind to change bulbs at either end of your Roadster ;)

Front isn't too bad (ok side lights are fiddly but Malcolm watched me do it once and was amazed I could get my fingers in there).

^^ I think this is correct, with modern cars.

The only vehicle worth keeping tools in is our 1996 landrover Defender, which has zero electrcs, and can be fixed mostly with a hammer, a leatherman, two spanners, cable ties and some WD40.

The best cure is prevention, a car shouldn't be breaking down, if essential maintenance has been carried out and the vehicle is in good condition.

I used a couple of long slim screw drivers like chop sticks to replace the driver's side light ;) No way will my podgy fingers fit in there
