My C-Class has Mobilo life and will contiune to have as I now have service plus so MB will do all the servicing. Yesterday I received a renewal notification for my Directline breakdown cover (similar to AA, RAC).

My question is, can anyone tell me if it's worth renewing my breakdown cover or if mobilolife is just as good? If I breakdown will they try to fix it or just tow it to a MB stealer? Will they come out to your house? Is the response time any good or will I be left sitting on the road side for hours (not unlike the AA)?

Also, like the AA, will they just look at it and suck through their teeth and say they have no idea what's wrong with it?

My first and only experience with Mobilife had me in a hire car and my Mercedes on a flat bed truck in less than an hour. This was on a Saturday morning taking my wife to Heathrow airport. Not the best time for my new (to me) Mercedes to fail. However Mobilife could not do enough for me, they apologised profusely that they could not get me a Mercedes hire car until Monday morning.
I have kept the Mobilife up as it covers me throughout europe. Although they will take you to a dealership if they cannot fix it at the roadside I would rather have my Mercedes at a delearship than a no name garage somewhere in europe and me not speaking the lingo.
My recent experience of insurance backed breakdown schemes and other large breakdown companies (no names!) ensure I will stay with Mobilife.

Just a supplemental question to this - I am going through the same thing at the moment, my partner is about to renew her breakdown and I am currently on it.

If she is driving my car (covered by Mobilife) and I am not in the car and it conks out, is she covered?

My guess (and it is just a guess, so I suggest giving the local stealer a quick call to confirm) is that the cover is for the car, not the driver.

Trouble is Hawk 20 seems to think that Merc's never ever go wrong and are the best thing since sliced bread (in all fairness this is a MB forum I suppose), so I expect he will say mobilolife is wonderful. I want an objective view from someone with a slightly more "realistic" view about MB and their service.

No offence intended Hawk 20, we are all entitled to our views, even you. ;)

Hawk20 entitled to a point of view... are you on the ganja

Mobilolife, first and only time I called them was in Stuttgart when my passenger window froze in the open position. They just told me to drive to the Stuttgart 24 hour werkstatt, anytime, and they would sort it. 9pm, dropped the car in, went for a beer, 1-2 hours later, went back, new window, new motors, new switch panel car was spotless... A1 service.
Even though I have a deadly fear of dealers, and am covered by ADAC worldwide,Im taking my ML in to a German dealer for its A service to keep the Mobilo. ADAC is on me,mobilo is on the car, so worth it.

Thanks Psmart. I have only heard good things about mobilo life so far so hopefully I have made the right choice.

As for Hawk20, well...never hurts to be diplomatic. Perhaps I should get some of that ganja though, probably get less points on my license for driving whilst smoking that than doing 3 mph over the 30mph tollerance on a country lane at 7:30 in the morning!!!

Oh and Blobcat, nice comeback. Lol:D

From Hawks posts, he's a good helpful guy... tis what this forums about, IMO, except when he tells me Mercs are reliable... ooooh! thats fighting talk

I got stopped for 100mph in a 60 zone, and the police decided that it was 100 in a 75 zone and theyd give me 10% tolerance, so approx 15mph above the limit.... 60Euro fine. Thats Germany though, makes sense when the police were racing me at 140mph only a short while earlier in their unmarked Audi (autobahns are unlimited in many sections)!!!!

1. I have never said that Mercedes are reliable.
2. Since neither you nor OmniColgateToothpaste appear to have read what I said, let me remind you. I said at the beginning of the 'Reliable Mercedes' thread: -
"It's easy to forget that nobody comes to a forum to say my lights are working. Many come with a problem and that's good. Others are here to help.

BUT it is easy to get a depressing picture of cars with faults as a number of threads show at the moment. To try and introduce a sense of perspective I have just looked up the latest JD Power results at which Mercedes have not done well in the past. Well things are improving.
Here are the top executive cars for 'customer satisfaction': - "

I then went on to accurately list the results of the survey. At no time did I say it was perfect -no surveys are or ever can be- but I just reported the facts as given by What Car. If you don't like the fact that Merc are doing much better, tough. Just don't keep shooting the messenger.

Since you clearly don't want my view I won't give it, except to say that you have been wrongly advised here about Mobilo Life. In addition, the Mercedes website is wrong about Mobilo Life in a number of important respects. If I can rake up the energy one day I'll try and get Mercedes to rewrite what they say.

Being of unemployable nature and not mixing with people made it very difficult for me when I first joined.
I was horrible in the begining, but am getting better. We are all different and from different backgrounds regarding money, knowledge and the ability to fix things.

It made a huge difference having the Solent Lunch and meeting people, in there own right, everyone was so nice to the point, you could be friends with any them. In my little isolated social world this forum has changed my outlook and I would love to meet more of the members.

Our common interest here is the MB, does it matter what one one persom thinks or does. In my 55 years working life I have yet to find someone who is happy that their "what ever you call it" has gone wrong and pleased to pay for the repair.

Malcolm

Just adding that the veiw of other members has saved the day for me on postings and answers by coming in at a very different angle and veiw point, this is the difference of sorting out what the problem is on your own , heading off in entirely the wrong direction, or being part of a team, I always wished in my life to be part of a team, and this is the first time in my life that I can be, here on this great forum. Thank you to to everyone for that, for I can carry on learning something new.
