I'm trying to get hold of a paint colour used on Pontoon and 280/300SL's in the 50's/60's.

The colour was called Perlmuttgrun (or Mother of pearl Green in English)
I have the Daimler Benz code of 213, but wonder if there is a reproduced, modern equivalent in a two pack that I can use for a project (don't worry, its not an original Pontoon or SL or I'd use the correct paint type ;) )

If any modern equivalent exists I'd love to know the code and manufacturer.

Many thanks in advance

(oh and my MB is a 500SEC..... plus a couple of 50's Morris Minors, one of which this paint is for  )

Any good paint shop should be able to mix it, as it should be on their computer. The third down on the right column is the one your after.

Thanks, but I'd already found this - its where I got the code from. What I was asking is if there was a modern equivalent as I don't want the expense of a custom mix colour (and the possibility of missmatches over batches of colour)

Soz. didnt read it. I have an affinity with Biggles, especially the fourth installment of the Trilogy, "Biggles Flies Undone". so i was just wondering if this is a new book. "Biggles Flies in the Paint!"

More like "Biggles passes out (from paint fumes)" ;)

Actually its an old nickname from when I was an Air Cadet as a kid - did a lot of flying, hence the Biggles moniker.

You have lost me now biggles.

All paints have to be mixed somewhere in the first place.
Most paint suppliers, and lots of paint shops mix their own. They either do it by a code, or a photo reader of existing paint.

But if you think that if you can buy it off the shelf in places like hellfords, I'd say no.

How much of this paint do you require?

How expensive, is expensive?

Oh good Lord I was not thinking about HELLfords!! Their paint is APPALING.

No I was hoping that either MB or a manufacturer of paint has produced a re-released/recoded colour that was a good match in a two pack. As for amount - well enough to do a full respreay inside and out on a Moggie Pickup! ;)

You've lost me too - if you're going to buy paint, then spray the entire car, that would be a sure-fire way of avoiding any mismatch? Even if it were the wrong colour???

Are you going to apply 2k paint yourself? This troubles me, you don't know how much paint, but you know how to safely work with 2k paint. If you don't re-post I shall assume the worst!!!

Is that colour chart all the colours you could buy a Pontoon in? 5 greens and 7 greys.......surely they did red too?

Yes Paul,

There are several other colours. Just posted the MB page with code 213 for illustration of the said colour.

You have completly missed the point.

I'm NOT spraying a MB, I'm just using an early MB colour.
I'm, not doing it myself as a 2-pack is VERY dangerous without proper ventilation and controls.
All I'm trying to ascertain is if there is a modern 2 pack equivalent to the colour I mentioned (as I believe I have typed out, in full, more than once).
I'm simply trying to save both my sprayer time and myself money but coming to him directly with a paint code he can use.
As for the missmatch issue - the car will need to be painted in tranches as its a rolling restore, so things like the wheels and parts of the pickup bed will by necessity be sprayed at a different time to the rest of the car. This will mean either a large batch of pre-mixed colour being made up, or re formulating for each run. The later being more likely due to the nature of the work.

Any clearer now???

Oh an FYI colour codes
