What's your thoughts on Classic Mercedes being Modified, are you horrified, is it sacrilege?
Most seem to be just lowered and a nice set of wheels, personally I think they look great. :) Here's a few examples.

Some good some bad, they call it Restomoding IIRC.

The red one is nice, the wheels on the black S are not right on that car

There is a shed of the week thread.
The pics you show are more pimp my ride.
Personally I like to keep things original. If some people like what they have done then all so be it.

They’ve all made those cars much worse...

Take some of the most comfortable and nice cars to drive, cut the springs with an angle grinder and fit stupid wheels...

All just criminally barstadised, absolutely appalling. I don't like any of them at all, can you tell ?

I was thinking I liked the red one and then I realised it would look so much better as an original :(

Edit... something like this:

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
Keep it original - plenty of naff cars you can mod if you want to - why ruin a classic?

Now that is lovely, from the golden age of MB in my opinion and looking as it should do, love it :)

I am a classic car modifier and have done plenty in the past, I have got one on the go at the moment ;)
The W123's really adapt nicely to a lower stance and wider wheels, not soo much the larger Mercedes models.
I'd love to fit a 5.5 litre supercharge engine into a W115

I think they look fine, and hats off to people who are using old cars to express their artistic and engineering flair.

It's not as though the originals are particularly rare and precious, it's not like retouching the Mona Lisa for example.

VW Scirocco. The Quattro, E350 CDi Blue Efficiency Sport Coupe, now both gone
Some look good, some don't, pretty much like any car, it's all down to personal taste.

Your car - your choice! They'll certainly turn heads and stomachs in equal proportions. Personally, I see nothing wrong unless you are working on something rare or truely classic.

I'm with you 00slk. At least most seem to just change the wheels and lower the car and of course spend a fortune restoring the bodywork and chrome. You suspect that a proportion of these cars would have ended up languishing and eventually rotting away.
