monitor for service - monitor unit purchase

I need, for my mechanist person, an electronic monitor for  Marcedes cars. It is a unit specially produced  for professional and perhaps authorized service-garages, it is a monitor that discovers misfunctions  of the engine or other parts.  Someone know where this monitor can be purchased? At least, someone knows the  name of such unit?

I know that branches of Halfords do units that plug into the diagnostic sockets of cars, enabling the home mechanic to see whats wrong with the engine by a series of LED flashes. How good they are a dont know, but when i last looked they seemed to make them for all the popular models on the road today. If i remember correctly they are made by a firm called Gunson.

You could have a look at Carsoft, marketed by Maverick in the UK. www.mavericktechnology.co.uk

I know nothing about the firm, but I have read that they do Mercedes specific software for their diagnostic system. It won't be cheap.
