1999 S210 E240, my first Merc. Rusty but I love it!!
Hi peeps, I have just started having probs with the 6 disc changer in my E240, it was playing fine one day last week, and the cd just stopped halfway through a track.
When I got home I tried to remove the cartridge, the little button flased green (as though the power was intrermittently getting to it), but the cartridge wouldn't eject.
I took the changer apart and got my cds back, put it all back together and tried again, it did exactly the same thing....
I then got a cheap cd changer from ebay, and still exactly the same, you press the eject button on the changer, the green light flashes for a bit, and nothing happens....:x
A friend is a mechanic, and he tested the power cable, and we are getting 12v through it, and he has looked at the fibre optic cable, and as far as he can tell, that is OK too.
Has anyone any ideas, cos this one is driving me mad!!!! I just hope that I don't need new cabling...if so, then I will have to give up on it!
Thanks

I can't see why, even without the fibre cable attached, it wouldn't load and eject the cartridge. So long as its got power, surely that internal function should work.

Hence I wonder whether the eject issue is a common failure and you've just bought a 'cheap' changer with exactly the same fault?

I have had the same problem with my cd changer. I took it apart and manually ejected the cartridge. I noticed that the lubricating grease on the various mechanisms appeared to have dried up. I removed all traces of grease with a solvent based switch cleaner that i purchased in Maplins (used an old toothbrush as well). I then lubed the mechanism with a light (silicon based I think) spray on grease and all worked fine for a while. The CDs dont always load and sometimes the magazine will not eject. Wondering if ir could be a prob with the magazine.

Im contemplating changing the head unit to either an Audio 10 with front loading cd or some other aftermarket one that will work with steering wheel controls (W219 E 200K). Has anyone any suggestions regarding a suitable head unit - have been told that most Alpine Units will work.
