Hi Guys

I am still enjoying my 1989 W124 300E. However, now and again it drives me nuts.

My windows will automatically close without me pressing any buttons at all. I have cleaned the switches and it still does it from time to time. The car has now developed an intermittent fault where if I go over a bump the sound from my speakers cut out. The power is still supplied to the stereo, however the sound cuts out for a couple of seconds and then returns. Both these faults happen on warmer days.

I have checked the fuses and all seem ok. I have also checked the electric aerial and the connections see fine.

Has anyone had a similar problem and a suitable fix?

Re the speakers, the fault must be the plug loose on the back of the radio, or a dry joint inside. Sliding the radio out should prove the point.

Big problem on 124's is poor contacts in the fuses and relay holders, the blades of the fuses should be cleaned with a contact cleaner-solvent, any arcing should be scraped away. Io often helps by turning the fuses around.
