Im gonna get my C320 remapped soon but what else can i do to get more power from it? I spoke to a carlsson dealer who suggested the remap and k&n filters would make a difference. He also mentioned nitros!! which im not so sure of although the idea and set up seem quite possible but im not sure on what it would do to the car.
He also suggested a carlsson supercharger but at the cost of £7k i think i'll leave that!
Any ideas how i can get the 0-60 time down a bit? and yes before you say i would like something bigged like a C55 but dont have the cash for that so have to work with what ive got!

K&N are a good filter because you dont need to replace it but the oil on the filter tends to contaminate the MAF and to be honest Ive never seen a performance difference on a normally aspirated car, Turbo yes.

Ecu remap would give more BHP and Torque, Torque is more important as BHP is only all there at 6000RPM, supercharger would give the biggest power upgrade. Ideally get it rolling roaded so you can see the before and after as sometimes lots of £££££££ doesnt give a huge amount back, Ive seen £1000 give an extra 1 BHP before so becareful.
Or save youself a few quid and stick another 5psi in the tyres.

K&N filter

I fitted a K&N air filter to my w210 E320 (V6) about this time 2 years ago (I intend keeping the car so the cost over time will be same or less than the original)

Recently had what appears to be uneven running at low revs (feels like wheel wobble, can't be as all 4 tyres have been replaced/balanced recently and tracking done) and lack of power at he top end of the scale (IE will not pull beyond 100 - 110 mph)

Looks like the oil must have contaminated the MAF--will do a clean in isopropyl before replacing, if necessary.

Top Gear did this with a Renault Avantime recently, it was an experiment to see how much quicker they could lap the car with a maximum budget of £15k, although something like £6k of that was for the purchase price. It should have been producing 200BHP but was tested and rated at under 150, a good service and a few new basic parts brought it back up to scratch but it actually ended up being slower around the track. In the end they changed brakes, suspension, removed weight, inproved aerodynamics and a few off camera tweaks - they spent all the budget and only marginally improved the lap time.

Maybe there is something the OP can do, but with such a good engine to start with maybe not much without spending some serious money on major modifications or upgrades

The tyre pressure idea mentioned above should also yield some small economy benefits too (less rolling resistance)

A lower ratio diff will reduce the 0-60 time of course. There are numerous different ratios produced by Merc for the various models, and may will be compatible.

Nos is fine if fitted and used properly, and very economical as although you'll empty your first few bottles pretty fast, after the novelty has worn off you only have to pay for your extra power when you need it.

Remove the Cats! Big difference, get a by-pass pipe made and put them back for MOT. Done mine in the CL makes a big difference in sound and power.

Im not sure if i could do with the hassle of replacing cats before the mot etc although its probably not a bad idea! I think the problem is no matter what you have you just get used to the power and its by no means a slow car!! i'd just like a little more!

Im also very interested with this oil issue with the k&n filters, can anyone shed some more light on that? how would i know if and when it causes a problem?

A Remap offer's the best performance or economy gains than any other modification for the money ! If used with other modifications it will produce staggering gains.

GCL what sort of improvement would it bring on a R171 SLK 280?
