Its an advisory, ie be aware, do at convenience.

real world
rears last for ever if you are light on the brakes, you might present for test next year in the same condition. However if harsher on brakes, you might incurr new discs as well as pads before hand. personally I would change pads sooner rather than later.

front disc pitted, run till next service. if you self service, keep a regular eye on them.

Hi Andy, it looks as though you will need new pads shortly, they are very low cost items and anyone can fit them.
Re the disc, if the car is not used much and you only ever brake lightly, the they will rust a little. you should do a few hard stops now and then to clean them up, mainly the rear ones.

Many thanks guys

so it looks like the discs will last probably a bit longer (only really do about 6000 miles per year anyway), but best to get the pads done first.

Cheers again

Update for ya guys

been in contact with MB in Harrogate and Ive been quoted £110.94 for the rear pads and £354.46 for the front discs and pads - if i left the front discs and just had the pad changed £146.82 - suppose it all depends on how much life is left in the discs - hows does this pricing sound chaps?

Cheers

It sounds twice as expensive as it could be, why not use an indie

They're only advisories.
I'd be tempted to just change the rear pads (an easy enough DIY proposition) and perform a couple of emergency stops from say 40mph to clean up the front disks.

nice 201 2.5D 1993 & very nice 129 SL500 1994
For me I would get all four disks and pads plus the handbrake shoes and springs from ECP and do the lot, cost me 100 quid for a 124 (nonvented disks) and about 3 hours to do the lot. Add about 50 quid if they are vented disks.
Its just not worth trying to avoid the work, it will have to be done sometime and the brakes will feel much better (especialy whilst gently stopping) than just a pad change would give.

I Like MB Harrogate. Nice folk. but always ask for a discount, they're usually quite ameanable.
I had brake advisories on all 4 at my last service. I'm waiting for the light to come on before I do anything about it and expect to get close if not to my next service before anything really needs attention.
Not sure about anyone in Harrogate but there are a couple of decent MB indie specialists just down the road in Leeds. There is "Scott Tec" just off Roseville Road. Never used him but allegedly he's good. There's also Merc-Care in Pudsey (near M&S) who I have used and can recommend. Both will be cheaper than MB or at least should be. That said, when I quoted indie servicing costs to MB North Leeds, they matched it so you never know.
