Historical - don't know. Is it possible that they were all done at the same garage? They may have records? Maybe only so far back?

I had a word with my local garage, though they keep all of the copies for years If you do not know the time it was tested within a few days its impossible. this one little garage has hundreds of books each with 100 entries.

see what you can find out from the previous owners

Looks like it will be possible in the future and you can check the mot status on a car that you are looking to buy as well and get vehicle details and mileage.

I presume that like alot of company documents, the mot station would have to keep records for some time. For example sales invoices have to be kept for 7 years. But without knowing the exact mot station it was tested at each year you have no hope - even if you knew the station then you would have to sit down and go through each certificate one by one - if they would let you!

Cant see them archiving the old details at a later date either as the certificates were hand written and alot of garages used the old type seals to add their company name and address for better security - no chance of OCR ing the info into a computer...
