The old girl is to be MOTed before 20 oct, I'm confident all will be well as it only done 2k since the last one. But what has buggered since them is the third brake light. 2 of the leds are not working in the strip. Is this a mot Failure or advisory?
I'm planning on getting it booked up next weekend so wanting to know do I have to get my ass in gear and change the light or can I wait till after the mot to do it. Time is limited at the mo.

I’m 99% sure the rule is if it’s fitted and connected it must work….

However if you disconnect it and explain that you have disconnected it then as long as the main brake lights work it should pass.

Hope that helps …

Had this on a BMW and the MOT rule then was that all leds must work. You can get round this by taping over the whole unit so no leds are showing but that defeats the safety aspect of having the centre brake light in the first place.

cmon dean. Get your bottom into gear, get to the dealers ans get a new lamp ordered and get the job done. You have a month.
Time waits for no man. Currently working 7 days a week 5am to 6pm. For some reason and I'm not sure why but I just cannot be arsed to start messing around with it when I get home. o_O I will just have to get it done

My dad had this on an old Volvo, but one LED on each end of the brake light failed at the same time. This was spotted by the MOT tester, but as it was even and didn't interfere with operation, then just marked it as advisory.

Ask the MOT centre where you are taking it to, if it will cause a 'fail' or just an advisory.

The man who does the job has some leeway.

The internet has only those who don't.

DefectCategory
(a) Stop lamp(s):

(i) with a multiple light source up to 1/2 not functioning
(ii) missing, inoperative or in the case of a multiple light source more than 1/2 not functioning
(iii) all missing or inoperative

So it's a minor defect with only two leds not working and it will pass the MOT
