Motor/pump running all the time?

Hi every one, this may be a very daft one but it will give you some one to laugh at if it is:Oops:
as soon as i turn the key to stage 2, ignition on but engine not started an electric motor/pump starts right at the back of the engine next to the bulk head, at a guess i think it is connected to the MAF sensor in some way as you can feel the vibration when you touch it, its almost like the heater fan is running but everything is off...is this normal? and if so what the heck is it:?

It depends on the car zeff, fuel pumps can be one thing

hi malcolm, its a 2000 reg clk 320 convertable, does that help, on my jag the pump would prime its self for 5 secs then stop, this is on all the time? when i unclipped the MAF it got louder, the old sea shell to the ear thing!!

Pumps etc behave in different ways, I had the same engine in my last 129 and thats normal, they just whine away, some of these engines have a secondary air pump as well
