Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Quite impressed with myself here. 494 mile round trip over 2 days, and the yellow light still wasn't on :) That's a 62 litre tank on an E300TD. Probably about 5 litres was SVO, the rest normal Asda DERV.

The light is on now of course, at 550 miles at the moment I reckon there's still another 20-30 miles in the tank. That's just over 41mpg by my reckoning.

Manchester-Cambridge-Snetterton-Kings Lynn-Newark-Ferrybridge-M62-Manchester

On the way down, I set the cruise at around 68mph and stuck to that, sometimes went up to 75mph. That was all motorways and nearly uninterrupted dual carriageway.

On the way back I was probably averaging around 60mph, overtaking the odd truck and such, until I got on the M62 at which point I set the cruise to around 75mph.

Just back from a trip to B'Ham Airport and back a total of 125 mls in a CD220 with 299310 miles on the clock averaged 57.3mpg according to the computer, an average speed of 62 mph using cruise 90% of the time set at 68mph.

Coaxed 51mpg out of my E220cdi. Stayed @ 60 on mway and 50 on A roads. It was suprising how many other drivers were doing just the same as me. Used to get 42mpg on the same run doing 80mph on mway and 70 on A roads.

I wish I lived in Venezuala for fuel. 0.7p/litre. With fuel prices like that threads like this wouldn't exist. And the planets climate still would be the same.

Since watching a TV programme a few weeks back, I'm now driving at 60mph where possible. Advised that any speed over 60mph increases fuel consumption by extra 20%. It seems to have worked get an extra 20 miles per half tank ie 25 litres. With these rip off prices need to do all I can.

I get 64 MPG out of my VW Passat 130 Sport 6 speed with the cruise set at 60 MPH, why do I want to change it? And it's got 132k on the clock.

2005 C270CDi Avantgarde Estate. Bought 2005, sold 2022.
I can get 50MPG reasonably easily on a run in my C270CDi auto estate, but no matter how hard I try I can't get much better than that. Certainly never the near 60MPG figures that some owners seem able to achieve.

I wonder if the estate has a lower final drive, or worse drag, or something?

I get 60mpg out of the 7 Seater if I drive at 60mpg. It's all about the throttle. Key point to remember is that every 20mph more that you do costs you an extra Quid every 8 mins.
It's like earning more than minimum wage on TOP of your pay when driving.

Enjoy the funnies. We're starting to sound like the guys in these pictures..!

Have been curious to work out how much could be saved by a lighter right foot.

Several long trips recently, so kept on cruise control and just under 2,000 rpm, so about 68 mph. (S 320 CDI). On one tank I averaged 45 mpg (brim to brim) over 610 miles. Today from Bristol to Warwick I saw 46.6 on the instantaneous readout.

Who would have thought that driving within the speed limit could be so much fun?

The bad news was that it cost just short of £90 to fill up - which for an Aberdonian can be very risky healthwise!
