Have a look at the paint on MrsB's new car. During 2004 MB went over to what we call scratch resitant coatings for the paint finish.
Tell us please how it compare's with other MB's you have had.

This pruduct came about following legislation in Germany that it is now illlegal to wash your car by hand.

How do the germans wash there car then?

They have to go to a car wash where the water is recycled. this paint was developed to withstand the harsh brushes at a auto wash.

If this rule comes to the UK I will wash mine in the dark.

Hers is Obsidian Black and from new looks great. Mine is Diamond Black and looks great. I have to confess I'm a driver rather than a washer but the finish looks good to me. My 2 previous Benz (an M and an E) both seemed fine. I wouldn't have known there was a difference if you had not said.

That Obsidian black is really something, very nice
Just for the record if you ever get any light scratching from someone walking by or hedge row for instance you can put a power polisher on it and it will always come up like new.
