I have seen on EUROMERCS, mud flaps, front and rear, for a R129 SL320 at a good price. My 'baby' is without! What advantage is gained by fitting mud flaps or should I leave well alone?

1999,R129 SL320.

a) They keep the sides of the car a lot cleaner.

b) A reduction in stones/debris/mud shotblasting the sills.

c) Less spray on wet motorways - the car behind stands a better chance of SEEING you, especially at night!

p.s. I have them fitted on both.

If the bottom front of sill, and rear bumper leading edge are not getting peppered with stone / dirt chips, then up to you,I had them on my 129

You cant have them on any AMG bodied car anyway

Sounds like a good idea to fit them. I have to get some bodywork done after car park rash so I'll get them fitted at the same time. I wonder why they were not fitted as standard? I have checked and no signs of mud flaps in the past. What you say makes sense and is what I thought.
Thanks
Freddie

They only cost about £16 a pair and no holes to drill

He is a guy who travels around the country buying, so not always there, he responded in ½ hour to the guy that wanted carpets

Cheers Delboy777. I have now ordered the flaps. I supose it was a stupid question in the first place, I knew the answer but just wanted to be sure.

No question is stupid, we go round in circles in our own minds "is this the right thing to do" in this case it is a MB part

Like fitting bigger wheels, mudflaps will create a less favourable coefficient of drag, thus reducing the streamlining of your car through the air.

That means you will use more fuel and possibly there will be more noise.

They are very small David on a 129, and do not stick out very much if at all
