Multimedia upgrade on 500sl 2003

Hi all,

I would like to upgrade my original command system on 500sl 2003 (R230) with new one. I need Apple car play DAB and SD/USB inputs. Do not need CD/DVD.

Any recommendation?

Hi Milos.
What do you have in your car at the moment? A full spec is needed e.g. system, amps etc.
Have you used a VIN decoder for your car to list the full spec?

I have factory original BOSE command system with optical connection

can't remember where, but I thought there was a whole unit someone spoke about, within the last year....

this is the big square small screen thing? of which there's an early and later unit last one with colour maps.... and the strange vehicle systems that makes it a little more involved

be aware these often have a design life of at least 3 minutes and unknown sound quality. Plus DAB is seldom std, its usually an optional extra usb gadget enabled bodge on..... and software development for small bugs and glitches tends to come via 2 years wait and by the third year the main board is replaced with a higher spec on the new models

Thank you for replay, yes with these Chinese android units is usually that happening...I prefer some Pioneer or similar quality products

yes they'd be better built (but these days only by 2 weeks extra life), the trouble is Mercedes do everything their way and lock half the cars functionality in to a comand system. A generic fit anything from Kenwoord or Pioneer tends to look cheap and nasty as its Japan ergonomics and styling themed on a miniaturised concrete block (although I gather things like working with OEM steering wheel buttons is becoming better - but on a 2003 S class ???).

That's the thing with running a hackable, open mess, anyone can vandalise the android OS and it can be programmed by the village idiot to do it the Mercedes way, and with stolen tech from the west China can do you a close to OEM style to the casing and buttons and integrate fully with the original features of the car for 27 pence

so 200 to 500 for something that looks OEM but with the ability to do just about anything, or a brick that doesn't integrate at all and might needs specialist programming of the rest of the car to stop errors and glitches

There are some custom builds of Android available for these Chinese PX5/PX6 based units which have decent community support.
I use the Hal9K Android 8.0 which does everything I need.
