multiple problems

00 e200 auto 115000 miles. have car 3 months on 6 month warranty. have had the following problems. 1) cat has been replaced due to exhaust noise and vibrations. problem still remains. 2) srs airbag light remains on 3) cd player dosent work. 4) battery died twice and had to use jump leads. 5) abs light comes on some times 6) esp and bas light comes on like abs light. 7) twice car would not change from park into drive. had to restart and keep trying. eventually worked. is this car fixable or is it time to bite the bullet and return to dealer? getting a bit annoyed at this stage.

Unfortunately, it sounds to me like you've bought the proverbial lemon which happens to us all at some point. The best thing to do is recognise this and move on. But I do not think that after 3 months, the dealer will accept its return and it is probably too late to reject it under the Sale of Goods Act as not being of merchantable quality.

If you have a six month warranty, I would get it fixed up as best you can and sell it. It will really not improve and other problems are bound to develop - it will be a bottomless pit as far as laying out good money is concerned. As you can see, I am one of life's eternal optimists!

Bring it back immediately, have someone accompany you (as a kind of record of what has been said) I would not be too pushed about the CD or Battery as you could have caused these problems yourself, but others could be to do with safety. The dealer will want to string this out for another 3 months till the 6-month warranty expires.

Be polite but firm, if any of the items are not subsequently fixed keep brining the car back…that’s what I would do anyway.
