Maybe it's lockdown fever? Well, actually, pondering on our next vehicle happens pretty much all the time - the result of having two petrolheads in one house...

We have often thought about the CLS 350d Shooting Brake as a possibility for our next vehicle. We would be looking at the facelifted version, so they are all 'AMG Line'. Question is, do these all have the stepped wheel/tyre sizes? The tyre selectors show 255/35-R19 front and 285/30-R19 rear. Does anyone know if this was the case?

If they are all wider at the rear, this will restrict tyre choice - no all-season tyres available at 285/30-R19...

As for ride comfort, we would definitely hold out for an example with full Airmatic! Plenty of them seem to have nice light interiors, so that box could be ticked. Then, just a visit to Will at Burnham-on-Crouch :)

We really want to try and avoid an SUV... The lure of an L405 Range Rover is scary!

I’ve been looking for one for a friend, very nice for the money. They really want the 2018 facelift version just because really. There’s some good 2016/17 ones available though

The Shooting Brake finished in 2018. The saloon was replaced with the new C257, no estate. I think C257 was more than a facelift, though, wasn't it?

Ooh, beg your pardon! My other half dropped the SDV8 suggestion in as a left-field idea earlier this week. Not sure I can overcome my SUV prejudice - though the luxury does appeal. I think our money would be 2014/15 with a few miles, though.

CLS 350D Shooting brake
I bought a new CLS 350D AMG line in 2016 and it's the best car I've owned. In the past I've had Audis, Jags Porsches Saabs etc.
It's very well built and gets over 40 mpg. on a run. The updated software was done (without my permission) in January and the Jury is still out on this.

I would definitely recommend one and if possible, go for the premium plus.

I wish people would stop calling it a "Shooting Brake", it's "Shooting Break"! They were specifically designed and used to carry Refreshments so "Shooting Parties" could take a "BREAK"! :)

I know what they mean about the facelift , some big cabin changes . I’ve spent some hours hammering Autotrader and the CLS has featured in said hammering :D

Ooooh! One of those never flagged up for my wish list!
Very nice looks, better than the E Class estate IMHO.
I’m on a new quest now! :D
