I think my W203 has an Audio 10 Radio/CD.
I tried to listen to Radio 5 on Saturday for news from Shanghai but gave up.

The reception is rubbish: at rest, lots of background noise; on the move, you have to crank it up to hear anything and the radio programme is always competing with background noise. It's almost like it's not tuned-in correctly...

Any ideas? FM reception is fine and the CD works perfectly - it's just the AM that lets the thing down. My old Nissan Micra's radio was great... :(

Sorry - I've put this in the wrong forum - it should be in Electrics. Could someone move it, please?

It is not easy to get good reception on AM often owing to the antenna being built into the rear window, If the FM is perfect then nothing to do about it,if the FM is poor also the the amp in the rear of C pillar could be faulty and quite common

This is also shared by the RF locking (long range)

If your radio has been removed and replaced in the past it is possible that the central wire in the antenna lead has broken.

The central wire is very thin and has a tendancy to break, in the right angled connector that goes into the back of the radio. This can give the symptoms that you describe - well it did for me.

If your handy with a soldering iron it is possible to open up the connector and resolder the joint. Just make sure that you don't short the outer earthing braid with the central signal wire.
