hi all
having no luck with my 190e.
first the water pump needed replacing, a ball joints gone, the brakes need doing and then yesterday went to start it and it now just makes a clicking sound  all in the space of 2 months
it has been stood for a couple of weeks while i've been waiting for a mechanic to do the ball joint (no one seems willing to do it) and started fine before.
is it the starter motor just jammed or does it need yet another new part??
also does anyone know of any cheap mechanics in the morecambe, lancs area as i have a feeling i'm going to need one :(
thanks in advance

hi,

dont get disheartened,

cars like this (especially 2nd or third hand) of this age need work done, it's inevitable, but the consoling bit is once the work is all done there should be a nice length of time before needing to do it again,

as it's been sitting still for a few weeks your battery may have drained sufficiently for it not to start, try a jump start from another car,

or...your starter motor may have indeed seized, or got stuck,

is it a manual or auto ?, if it's a manual you could try towing it to start it

cheers

Sounds as if a good whack with a hammer as being the cure for the problem does mean it's time for a new one but, as mentioned above in time everything will iron out.

Hi

Fully charge the battery before you take the starter out to clean the shaft the gear runs on.

Hi

Fully charge the battery before you take the starter out to clean the shaft the gear runs on.

As matt says. the car has not been started for 2 weeks so the battery is flat, this will make the stater just tick, and it is not faulty.
