C280 Elegance 1994
Well I have at last got round to changing my car and have opted for a VW Golf Mk 5 Estate. Rather smaller than my C280 and I shall miss my lovely old Merc which is now for sale on Autotrader at just £750.
Full wording of advert:
1994 Mercedes C280 Elegance 113,000 miles, 4 Door Saloon, Malachite Green, Petrol, Automatic. Only 2 previous owners, but in same family for last 12 years. Full MBSH up to 72k, owner maintained since then. Good Michelin tyres, Alloy wheels, and this car is in generally good condition and has been looked after. A liitle rust appearing on NSF door and rear wheel arches but nothing too bad. Fitted towbar but has hardly done any towing. Drives well and recently passed MOT with no advisories. Could do with new front shock absorbers soon as the OSF one gets noisy after 10 miles or so. Taxed end Nov 2008, MOT August 2009. 4 Electric windows and sunroof. C/locking. Radio CD. Beige cloth upholstery. Auto gearbox has economy and sport modes. This car can be quite quick with its 193 bhp engine. The photographs show it with my private plate but the car will have standard M registration mark when it is sold. Car is in Kibworth, Leicestershire. £750.

No photographs on this thread but if anyone is interested take a look on the Autotrader website. It has a useful and efficient search facility.

I'll still pop on to the Mercedes Club site to see what's going on.

Glad you sold it Ron. What a bargain for the lucky buyer. Can believe how low priced the W202's are now

Thanks High-Lo,
I know, crazy prices for such a well built and comfortable car. Still, I'll appreciate the 50+ mpg from the new Golf 2.0 TDI SE Estate, and the performance of that is more than adequate too.

I'll keep you posted Anyweb. I don't think I'll go back to a W202 although I loved being the owner of one. In the 4 years I owned it all it cost me was less than £200 for servicing (I do my own), and £296 for 4 Michelin tyres. Not bad for a 14 year old 2.8 litre auto which averaged 27 - 28 mpg overall. A lovely reliable motor with a fair turn of speed when required. I may well go back to Mercedes though if the right car at the right price presents itself.

Ownership of the VW will be an interesting comparison. Decision much influenced by Mrs. P who was smitten by the Golf SE Estate.

Best Wishes,

Ron

Well 3 weeks into swapping from my old C280 to an 08 plate VW Golf SE Estate 2.0 TDI I can report 55mpg average so far. No probs to date. Mrs P is happy having her own temperature control (just like the C280) on the passenger side.

Main thing I'm missing about the Merc are the visits to the filling station.

Regards to all, Ron
