My first Merc 560 sec

Greetings All,

This is my first post on the forum.
I'm in the process of buying a 560 sec which I intent to have restored as I think it's a beautiful car. It's a 1998 model, I'd like to know of common issues to have checked and also the original colours the car came in as I'll probably have it re-sprayed. I've already been informed that the power-steering pump needs replacing.

IMHO the condition of the body vis a vis RUST is very important. They are known to rust badly in the panel below the rear windscreen-it can leak. Can be checked via the boot. Is the boot dry / damp?? its a good indicator. Timing chain problems on the v8 are not unknown- has it been renewed. Does the aircon work OK test everything electrical windows seat belt presenters etc etc A good service history main dealer or more likely specialist is a must. These cars need money spent on them to maintain their excellent engineering. A good one will be GREAT a poor example is a bottomless money pit.
