Hi.
I bought my first Mercedes back in Feb. My car is a C250 td elegance estate. It has lived a hard life with a "country" family. The car is my workhorse so its appearance is not to important to me. I was aware of the rust issues, I have had a few problems, intermitant sticking front brake caliper, I was only able to change one glow plug, others are stuck. The car passed its MOT without even an advisory.
I enjoy driving the Mercedes more than my Impreza wrx. Anyway I was at a local scrap yard yesterday to ask about getting my old vw polo uplifted. I asked the bloke if he had a tailgate for the Merc. He asked the colour and said he did have a blue one in his cars for export yard. I went to see the tailgates condition. The yard had at least 50 Mercedes of all sorts, waiting to go to Russia. I eventually found the car and its tailgate was rust free. The scrap car had an immaculate black leather interior. I bought the tailgate and the entire interior of the car for £175.
Could anyone give me some guidance on swapping the cars trim, especially the door cards? How difficult is the tailgate swap, ie the lock and wiring loom? Thanks in advance.

Geo.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum,
If you take a look at the link below, it is the removal procedure for a door card though it is from a pre-facelift 202, it should be very similar and should give you a starting point (clic on the thumbnail)

The seats are reasonably easy to do as they are just bolted in and should be straight forward to change.
The new leather interior you got bit of a bargain, whereabouts in the country is the breaker you used?

I can also send you details of seat and door card removal if you wish.

Thanks for the reply. Andy, the breaker is in Kirkcaldy in Fife, several of them seem to work from the same location. Most of the cars I saw were in very poor condition with glass missing. I was lucky with the tailgate as most that they had were very rusty.
Malcolm thanks for the offer, please send me the instruction that you offered, they will be a big help to me.
Thanks again.
Geo.
