Hi all, I'm new to this forum. In the middle of getting a very low mileage but a little sun stressed 500SL back up onto it's wheels. On that subject I have four W126 wheels in good condition if anyone wants them.

When I got the car, I discovered someone had had a little play with the vacuum system, that is all the underbonnet bulkhead connectors where in the glove box and not a lot functioned. I have now replaced or repaired the whole system but cannot find any guidance on these underbonnet connections up in the top right corner by the bulkhead.

If anyone has an accurate vacuum system drawing, or could take a few pictures of the line connections on their own car, it would be a great help to me.

Thanks in advance.

Don.

Hi and welcome.

Assuming this is an r129 (1989 till 2002) then in the module coffin (common name for where all the ECUs/vacuum lines go) is a distribution manifold. A line will come from the pump in the boot and another from the inlet manifold on the engine. These provide vacuum to the heater system and other vacuum consumers. Internally there are a pair of check valves. The manifold has a bad habit of cracking where the pressed in ball bearing used to cap the end sits. Simply fill any crack with epoxy resin and it will work perfectly. I'd happily take a pic of mine but its 200 miles away....

The other place vacuum lines come together is in the heater vent motor distribution block behind the glovebox.
These are specific where pipes connect as the manifold is also the control valve. I've found some info for you in my files.
Attached.

Sorry Donald I cannot offer any advice on this. But welcome to the forum. I've always admired the SL. Be great to see pics of yours sometime.
