Hi Everyone,
I've spent the last 4 months searching for the right R230 SL55 and finally acquired one last week from a brilliant bloke up Durham way. The vendor is an avid car collector, knows the model inside and out and has spent the last 7 years ensuring it remains in top order. It's an extremely well sorted 2002 model, with 43K miles and all the usual weak points addressed. I couldn't be more delighted with it. A big thanks to this forum, which I have spent the last few months leeching for as much information as I could. I hope, in time and as I learn more about my car, I am as much a contributor as an absorber. Thank you very much to those members who are so generous with their knowledge.
I'd also like to give a big shout out to comandonline.co.uk in Lightwater, Surrey. I know they are much admired on this forum, but I can only say that everything I read on here has been reinforced in my recent dealing with them. This week I dropped the car in to have the Command head unit and sound system replaced with a Pioneer SPH-DA250 DAB and JL amp. Mark, Rob, Rich and Becky gave me me loads of time to explain the system and considerations, were responsive, accommodating and so, so knowledgeable. I had been in 2 minds about spending the not inconsiderable sum of money, plus removing a core element of the cars originality, but the end result has blown me away. It looks so in keeping with the car, while making for a massively enhanced and more practical driving experience. Honestly, I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Anyway, thanks again for all the help and here's to many (I hope) happy years of Mercedes ownership ahead.
Dave
