That's not much. :)

I only quoted the miles because most mags will choose an immaculate example with fairly low miles - a collectors car if you will.

The 123 had done 59,000 k.

BUT the point being that both looked absolutely pristine in large colour close-up pictures, with not a blemish.

The 124 being especially impressive because it was a daily driver with over quarter million ks on the clock.

I could never claim that my W124 is completely free from blemishes, but for a 20 year old car, it looks amazing.

David, I work in Maidenhead and spend a fair amount of time in Reading. Look out for a white W124!

Peter

I certainly will look out for it - I will be in my azurite coupe N reg.

Yours will look better than mine as a like driving not polishing.

If you fancy a beer sometime just shout, and name a pub and a couple of date and time options I will confirm with you.

David

Thanks David.

I'm a chartered surveyor based in Maidenhead, but work takes me all over Bucks and Berks. Over the next 6 months I will be monitoring a project in Earley - how close is that to you?

Lovely looking 124:)

I think that the pre-facelift cars with the flat wheeltrims look really good.

I purchased my 300e sportline back in november and have now done seven thousand miles in it and it hasnt missed a beat.
We are emmigrating in november and i decided to ship the car with us as cars are relatively expensive where we are going but petrol is is really cheap and i dont want to give the 124 up as i am totally smitten with it!!!!

For what you can buy these cars for and given the quality of them,i would have to as myself as to why i ever brought newer mercs which cost to much and just ended up losing fortunes on them.

OK, you've got me there. Why did you?

Its the same as the "her indoors "thing, and once bitten, twice shy, I know that this does not come into my own way of life, but then some of us never learn.:confused:

Beautiful example you have there.
Seeing it has given me even more reason keeping my car 100% original. :D
I've considered on a number of occasions getting the newer spec clear indicators, but every time I refuse. And I will keep refusing it. :)

The one and only exterior things haunting me are those 16" 8 hole MB wheels... :p

Thanks.

Aside from a Kenwood tape/tuner (fitted by the previous owner), the car is completely standard and it's staying that way.

Clear indicators and late style red/clear tail lights would look cool but no way am I pimpin' this ride. I like the wheel trims too much to fit alloys.

Good thinking Peter. I rarely modify cars (Scottish = thrifty) and generally find that the original equipment has been well thought out.

This is especially true of alloys where the larger diameter wheels lead to lower profile tyres (harder ride, vulnerable to kerbing, more expensive to replace). It can also lead to front and rear trye sizes differing, which must be exciting if ever there is a puncture.

Of the MB alloys, I am happy with the 16" 8 hole wheels I have on the SL. Easy to clean, comfortable ride and as much road holding from 225/55 tyres as I will ever need. I was also very fond of the alloys on my W202 Sport, which were really easy to keep clean and looked very smart IMO.

I keep all my cars standard:

My daily runner (2008 Renault Megane):

My weekend toy (1994 Toyota MR2):

The Merc:

I totally agree about the compromised ride / handling on bigger rims issue. Been there, done that, wouldn't do it again. I fitted 17" wheels to my previous MR2 and whilst the car looked great, it was ****** awful to drive:

I sold that car within a month of putting the wheels on.
