I reported a 'slight clatter' a while ago and have located what seems to be the problem and need help to find the part.

Please look at the thumbnail picture. Its a plate mounted with rubber bushes, at the back between the wheels.

What is this part?. What is the part number

Do I need to replace the whole plate or just the rubber bushes.

Any help greatly appreciated.

The part number is almost readable.

Try cleaning it up a bit and repost

You have not said which car you have.

Model

Engine size

Year

However it looks like it is a rear differential vibration damper.

These would only normally be fitted after market to cure a vibration problem - my 124 does not have one fitted for example but it is available from Merc if required.

So, once we know which car, we can give you the part number and price for the part.

I have not consulted the manuals yet, but I would think it is fitted with the same bolts that hold the rear of the diff in place.

Are you saying you can move just this part without moving the diff as a whole ???

If it is fitted with seperate bolts then it is an easy job to replace.

IF it is fitted with diff bolts then you need to replace the rear diff bushes, as the diff will be banging against the underside of the car when driving on bumps. Also the diff/prop shaft will tend to be mis-aligned as the rear of diff will have dropped because the rubber in the bushes will have collapsed.

Replacing the diff bushes is a pig of a job and it needs a special tool which can change the diff bushes in situ without removing the diff.

I have one of these tools if you want the job done and you are near(ish) to Berkshire.

So, which car is it ?????

Apologies for the lack of detail.

I have a 2003 C180 Komp IOt has 96000 miles on the clock.

After looking closer at this part, I don't think the rubber has gone after all. I am 90% sure the sound comes from the diff area and am about a week away from sending the car to satan's dealer or mercedes benz as you might call them.

I live in Somerset
