I keep seeing references to this and have done a search but can't find out exactly what it is and what it does.
I assume it's better than the old paint.
Anyone care to explain?
Also, how can you tell if your car has it?
Thanks.

I may be wrong, but I think its like paintwork that doesn't need washing, designed for countries (like germany) where its illeagl to wash your car on the roadside? Its not a UK option

Nano paint is ceramic based and is fired onto the bare shell at 300ºc.

It was brought out for the laws in Germany that banned hand washing of cars with a hose pipe. all MB cars from 04-04 have this paint,, it is very hard so that it can withstand auto car wash booths, stone chips can look ugly as it splinters, just the same as with china, but in all it is tuff.

Cars i after accidents cannot be re finished by the same method

So true Peter, and on a black car it looks awful, it splinters , as it is a ceramic finish. the edges of the chips are very jagged and sharp. when re finishing chips have to be flatted right off, to stop the re placement paint from shrinking and grinning through the new paint, so from this point on all benefits are lost.

To polish it special polishes are used

If the car has nano paint then there is a C (for ceramic?) in front of the paint code on the B post label.

Presumambly this means the date it left the factory and not the registration date.
I've have a search around the forum and can't find a definitive way of comfortably ascertaining the date of manufacture.
The 'Russian' site provides a 'Delivery date'. If this isn't the date it left the factory, does anyone know what it is?
(My 05 C220 had a delivery date of 02.08.04, and the 04 A170 had a delivery date of 17.07.03 - might not have nano paint on both, but hopefully both galvanised!)

As suspected, the c220 has it, and the a170 doesn't.

If they've put it there, it's surprising it's not on the spec sheet in the back of the service booklet.

Oh well, learning more every visit to the forum!

Thanks to everyone for their replies.
Mine has it - I think I'm pleased to say.
Nikon lenses are now nano coated so nano must be the future.
