Hi there folks!

The Navi in my clk is not working now – it keeps saying insert CD etc. took it into the dealers who said I need a new command (£3,00)! charged me £100 for telling me it does not work!

I was hoping that someone could therefore help me on the following:

1) Is there any place where I can get it fixed? (Navi)

2) The clusters (small ones on either side of the main unit) have also gone (common problem I was told) but my car is on a 2002 plate! Can I get them repaired without paying a HUGE amount?

3) I would also like to fit a DVD player for the kids, anyone knows where I can go? :D

4) Or perhaps the TV option? :D

Thanks again folks for all your help!

Navi unit

Hi there.

I would recommend checking out eBay for a replacement Command unit - though it does depend on how much you wish to pay? I'm not sure how much a new one costs but the average on eBay is around the £500 mark.

:)

Your unit is almost certainly an A208 unit which is COMAND 2. I presume it was fitted from the factory.

Does it play music CD's? If so, then it sounds like the NAV unit is bad (expensive) if not then its the laser unit (not so expensive). Are you using a genuine Teleatlas CD or a 'backup' copy? what does it say if you put the NAV cd in and then press the Cd button? does it sat CD ROM inserted?

One final bit of info required; With the unit switched on, press the FM button. Then press and hold down (at the same time) the mute, the 1 and the 3 button. Hold them down for about ten seconds. this will take you to the diagnostic menus. Select Versions. then select FIS. Let me know what the MB part number is which is displayed. Press RET twice. Select diagnostics. Select error list. Write down the error codes and let me know what they are. Press MUTE and 1 and write down these error codes also. Press MUTE and 0 to clear the errors.

If you can answer these questions, then I can probably tell you whats wrong with it and hopefully how to fix it:)

You can select the Cd unit using the menu on the Cd display. Select CD0 and see if that plays.

B1736 is a Cd reading Fault. B1762 is a CANBUS communication error. LEts ignore that for now. N1112 is a non communication error on the D2B ring. Again, ignore this for now. B1738 is a GPS navigation fault. Possibly poor aerial connection.

Have you tried a Cd lens cleaner in the drive?
