With the feature "mirror adjustment parking aid" turned to ON, then I engage reverse the near side mirror moves to a position where I should be able to see the curb near the rear wheels.

But it moves alright, only to a completely useless position where all I can see is the cars own paintwork!.

As with my other post, the manual is very little use

P135 simply tells me how to turn on/off this feature

P92 tesll me that "you can store the passenger side exterior mirror position.... " but isn't clear how...

Do I put the car in to reverse? let the mirror move to currently useless position whilst holding the car stationary with the brakes... adjust it... still while stationary, then store in memory position... then return the car to Drive?

I tried that, but on returning it to Drive the mirror stayed in the now correct position for reversing.

How do you actually store the correct position for reversing action

I have done this on my car a C220cdi. Mine has memory seats so yours may be different but this is what I have done. Turn the ignition key to second position. Put the car in reverse; you should see a red light on the mirror button on your driver's door. Adjust the mirror to where you can see the rear wheel/pavement (I have not found this perfect as the mirrror will not move fully to where you may like it but it does get pretty close). Then push the memory button and and the stored seat button 1, 2 or 3. There will be a beep. Then you can start the car and when in drive or going forwards the mirror will return to its normal position. Next time you go to reverse the passenger side mirror will go to its stored parking aid position.

Ensure you have selected the NS mirror!

Once you have adjusted to te position you want and have pressed the memory button you MUST then press the adjustment pad again (in any direction) within 3 sec. If the NS mirror doesn't move the setting has been stored. If it moves go through the process from the begining again...

But remember

Even if you have set the mirror to dip when reversing, showing you the kerb or the lines in the car parking bay (very useful), if you reverse at more than 5 mph, the mirror will assume you want to see further away from the car and will revert to its normal position. If you then slow down for the clever bit, it will appear not to have dipped at all - but it did initially.

I have a related question, I can get the parking mirror feature working for the nearside mirror by selecting the mirror select button, moving the mirror to the dipped position, perssing M then moving the mirror again within 3 seconds....

My question is, is there any way to get both mirrors to dip when selecting Reverse gear? I usually park with the kerb on the offside and it would be handy to have this mirror drop automatically too..

Thanks
Robert

PS, should have said, 2003 SL500 R230, thanks

Might it be possible to do if one were to fit the LHD door controller in place of the UK driver's version?

Not sure if there may be a conflict if two dipping enabled controllers are fitted.

Could be a really useful mod if it works!
