need help for changing the auto gear nob

hi everyone, please can anyone tell me how to change the auto gearnob for a 1994 E320 Coupe? i've got a wood one really nice to replace the old black one, tried but can't take the old one off at all!

any help will be appreciated!

Is there a silver/chrome ring at the base of the gearknob. twist this and the knob should slide off
