I’m told there is blockage in the exhaust, lack of power / speed and bit noise but not too much.
Able to drive in town at slow speed. I really need to drive 60 miles and 60 mile return to get home for Xmas, otherwise I am home alone on Xmas day.
Is safe to drive just for Xmas day.

Tried car hire but is not an option for me I’m afraid.
Hope you can help
Thanks

What did the garage say about driving the car ?
What did the garage say about driving the car ?
What did the garage say about driving the car ?

Hi Wighty
I am so sorry, I been meaning to get back to you all regarding my other issue with they tyres/rumbling noise etc...
which I shall explain later date, but I am forever grateful you and the other members have put in a lot of time in answering my questions.

My regular mechanic of 15 years are on Xmas hols and they are the only mechanics I trust.

they recommend me not to drive from Manchester to the Lake District. Another mechanic listened to the revs and said blockage in the exhaust but he doesn’t think it is the catalyst converter.

he said it’s fine to drive a few miles down the road but not to the Lake District.
Another garage said, as long as I have RAC they prob risk it.

The thing is... I taken it to a garage at the beginning last week. Even though I told him it’s the exhaust, he was convinced it’s the brake pads.
He showed me how drivers side wheel spins freely and passenger did not spin. So he charged me £40 to do the passenger side brakes and the back passenger, same side.

It still the same, stiff, little power and little noise. Not a hissing or rattling noise, more of a roaring noise.
Now the is a glanging noise like a spanner noise, in the front passenger wheel. So I guess he left something loose.

I am not having any luck with this car

Clear any fault codes first?

Hi Dean, no code has come up on the dashboard and I not had it diagnosed at the garage. They just asked me to Rev and there no smoke coming out and the noise.

2 garages says it’s blocked but kns says it’s the exhaust blocker and the other says the same but also could be catalyst converter

they didn’t have time to fix it before Xmas. That is why I been to a few places. They ask me to bring it in so they can have a quick look

Will it blow the engine? Cos one mechanic told me not to drive on the motorway long distance as I could blow the engine

where is the cruised control. I never used that feature. I wonder if I have that in my clk. I didn’t even get a manual.

so they are saying the CAT has collapsed ?

Both says the exhaust is blocked. One says the cat converter could be affected and tops £800 fof nes exhaust and the other says cat converter is not affected and says it will cost a lot more than £800

Just to say thank you to everyone who replied to my post, I can see myself having to spend Xmas day alone and then take it to my regular mechanic after the new year.
I’m trying to figure out if I should just get rid of the car as I had ongoing issues with it and if it cost another £800 as I have spent a lot on it already and I not even had it 10 months and hardly driven it

This is crazy! Did he replace the brake pads? If so he should replace the whole axle, not just one side back and front.

If the pads weren't changed, what did he do for £40?
Don't use that garage again!

Hi GMGEED

he said they are sticking or twisted at the back. He spun the front drivers side and that spun freely, then he spun the passenger side and it didn’t spin well.
He worked on both wheels and showed me the 2 pairs of pads. It taken him 2 hours and I waited.
He said normally it’s £80 for both, but he charge me only £40.

as I already arranged to let another garage look at my car the next morning. I taken it to them and they were confused why he changed both on same side. He really should changed both fronts.
Actually I think he might have just cleaned them. now I have a clanging noise at intervals. I thought he had left his mobile in my car when he taken it for drive.

I really don’t have any luck with cars, car sales ppl and mechanics

Hi bembo449

No it sounds forced, growling noise?
They asked me to Rev whilst they look around the back and both says it’s blocked exhaust but one of them mentions could be catalyst but they don’t know until they take it apart.
Worst scenario, £800 for new exhaust

Thank you for your concern, it means a lot. I had issues from the start with this car and payed a lot of money for nothing, until I managed to get to my regular place and they fixed it straight away. then 5 weeks later, this happens.

I’m always getting ripped off. I got this car in a rush because I had purchased an Audi A3 previous to this, turned out it was a death trap, lots of issues. My mechanic printed off a list of faults and go back for a refund. I really should have done the same with this one too cry
