Tonight and today ive had problems with my 1993 220te, it revs eratically etc and stalls for no reason, tongith whilst the car was ticking over I massaged the loom from the MAF and the car started to run rough so I removed the outer sleave and the 4 wires inside had all lost the plastic insulation, no suprise there really.

Ive cut the wires back to good wire and soldered some new wires in place, and now the car wont start..... double checked everything and it wont go.

HELP

Did you disconect the battery before doing the repair, check the fuses and hope nothing has shorted out.

No it doesnt start with MAF unplugged, checked wiring, each wire was cut from the plug end and I then followed it to the bulkhead and then cut it so only one wire was removed and replaced at one time.

Put the multimeter on the plug this morning and two two seem to be connected at the plug. not sure if they are meant to be.

Could I have trashed the engine ECU soldering the loom wires with the battery connected.?????

I have pulled the loom about abit and the wires from the maf to the bulkhead where all toast all the plastic coating was powder for most of its length, I think it thime to pull the loom and start from there.

Ive managed to replace the wiring, the loom for the MAF runs to the ECU and OVP and its was all burnt, the OVP has also burnt out in the process so a new one of those will be here tonight.

Fitted the new OVP relay tonight and she started 1st time, running really smooth now, amazing how much damage the wiring can do.

Thanks all

Sadly I really enjoyed doing it, I know other areas of the loom need attention but I will get to them soon.

My concern really was the severity of the damage cause and how far it went into the loom, I searched and read the posts by another chap with the same car and his doesnt look like its going to be an easy fix.

I thought the main ECU may have been damaged by the short but luckily it was fine, so although I was gloomy this morning its turned out ok, even my mate at Mercedes did me a result, 2 brand new conti 255x45x18 for the CL new old stock to me £40 each..................................time for a beer or more..
