Hi dava
Thanks for the reply, sorry but it has become rather confusing as M/B customer services in France will not answer any of my questions.
In brief a M/B dealer in France replaced the rear break disks on my truck as part of a repair to the rear breaks. The original diagnosis was a seized calliper on the near side only. They replaced the leaking Calliper and both disks.
I had exactly the same problem again same wheel same symptoms. This time they said it is just the hub bearing.
I told them that the other hub and calliper is leaking now as well. They said they are not leaking and said my breaks are impeccable and just repaired the same side again this time with a new hub.
They had the truck three weeks and I ended up having to drive back to the UK in a dangerous truck. I took it strait to a UK main dealer and was told your truck is dangerous and all three of the faults I had told the dealer and Customer Services reputedly about are in fact present.
The calliper is leaking breaks fluid.
The bearing is leaking
The disk is badly scored on the outside. (This is on the side that they had just fitted the new bearing to.)
I had told the dealer and made nearly thirty phone calls to M/B Customer Services.
The dealer said it was a coincidence and said all the faults must have happened on the way to the UK dealer. M/B France believes him.
In a latter meeting with the dealer he said in front of a senior M/B technical expert that he thinks the UK dealer just fitted the parts because I told them to.
I am still in contact with M/B but need some more information regarding the repair procedure for removing and refitting the hubs to this truck.
I understand the Hubs have been modified as the original hubs if not refitted carefully could leak.
The original hubs are not available as a part anymore, so if the hub leaks you have to have new hubs.(£250 plus vat each) I understand it is just the seal that is at fault.
I don’t think the French dealer was aware there was a possible problem with the hubs.
So when confronted with my now badly damaged truck he decided to lie to me and deliberately allowed me to drive away in a truck with defective breaks.
The above is a very, very brief outline of what has been going on for over eighteen months.
